7.03.16 Black Gate Magazine: ‘Strong hints of sinister goings-on’

A little follow-up on Wiscon: I was lucky to be included in a reading with one of my favorite writers, C.S.E. Cooney, and got to meet some terrific other writers in that group — Jeanine Marie Vaughn and S. Brackett Robertson. Well, it turned out we had Black Gate Magazine’s John O’Neill in the room, and he wrote up his experiences at the con, including a breakdown of each of our stories.

He was so kind about my story, “Can’t Find My Way Home” (which will be out later this year in Children of a Different Sky)! I apparently really cannot pitch my fiction for shit … but fortunately he didn’t nod off in the middle of the reading and seemed quite pleasantly surprised. I’m at a stage in my (hopefully rising) writing career where it’s lovely to hear from friends and relations that they like my work — but in a couple of ways a much bigger deal when someone who doesn’t know me at all lights up from the work. That’s a big deal.

As is being included over at Black Gate. Check out the whole piece here, or you can see my selected portion by downloading the PDF!
